Humanists UK trains and accredits humanist pastoral support volunteers to work in hospitals, prisons, and the armed forces. This training is managed by Humanists UK’s Head of Humanist Care, Clare Elcombe Webber.
Humanist pastoral support volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all share these qualities in common: a personable disposition, a profound sense of empathy, a non-judgemental attitude, a keen commitment to helping others, patience, and a strenuous ethic of professionalism.
Our face-to-face training programme was paused in March 2020, and will resume as soon as we are able. If you are interested in attending one of our induction weekends, please fill out the Pastoral Support Volunteer Form, and we will contact you with more information in due course.
